THE POWER OF NOTHING
A place engulfed in darkness, seemingly stretching on forever and ever with nothing but… nothing. Just a never-ending expanse of void. What does one feel in such a place? Fear? Despair? Or perhaps, something completely different? For in nothing, there lies the potential for everything. In this nothingness, we may find ourselves—where transformation can unfold. Must we fear this place, or is it one to be embraced?
We can feel this place and experience it in our own minds. But why would one want to experience this? Nothingness is something to be feared and dreaded… or is it? It is also a place of peace and clarity; we just have to see it differently. Emptiness is not the absence of something, but the existence of infinite possibilities. It is here, away from everything, that the seeds of change and transformation are planted. Artists, writers, and musicians often speak of how they get their best ideas out of these moments of stillness and nothing-a place where the mind can wander and explore without boundaries. In true emptiness, we are free from distractions and are faced with our authentic selves.
The way to feel the nothingness and embrace it is simple: Let go. Let go of all the fears and attachments and you will experience true personal transformation. It is like an empty canvas, on which you can create anything without limits. The moments of solitude we experience can aid in self-discovery, enabling us to connect with ourselves and who we truly are. As Ram Dass said, “The quieter you become, the more you can hear”. Like a phoenix being reborn and rising from its own ashes, we must be reborn after casting away all our fears and negativity, embracing the void and using it for our transformation. In a day, we must spare a period of time just to sit, close our eyes and feel… nothing. Float in that expanse of nothing and embrace it. It is true freedom–being able to do anything and transform into anything without any limitations, so there’s no reason to have fear. Be empty. As a wise man once said, “It’s better to be empty if you want to be reborn”. If one is empty, it is easier to fill themselves with what they want-things like their beliefs, values, and goals. Transform. Be reborn. Achieve your goals and do whatever it takes to make them a reality. The nothingness or the void we embrace will help us transform in order to achieve our goals. So, now, I ask again, is that place a place to be feared… or embraced?
