A Summer to Remember
Splash! The water hit my face as I dived into the pond near my grandparents’ house. The cool water, the warm sun, and my cousins laughing around me — that was the perfect start to my summer holidays! Exams were finally over, and I had two whole months to enjoy.

The first month was full of family functions and a short trip to Kodaikanal. But the second month was my favorite — staying at my grandparents’ house. We set off in our new car, and the excitement started even before we reached. My cousins were already there, and the fun began as soon as we met.

After a few days, my parents returned to Mysore for work, leaving me with my grandparents and cousins. At night, we would chat with grandma before sleeping, feeling happy and safe.
Summer meant long hours of playing in the pond and sneaking sweets from the kitchen. Mango season made everything more delicious — mango juice, tasty dishes, and even jackfruit papads! Making them at home was messy but so much fun.

Evenings were for walks in nature. One day, I even saw the school where my father and his siblings had studied. Listening to my grandparents’ stories made me feel connected to the past.
During the day, we played different games, sometimes argued a little, but always laughed together. Mornings were for collecting flowers with my cousin. We went to the farm with grandpa to pick cacao (chocolate fruit) and with grandma to gather mangoes and jackfruits. Sometimes, we even helped feed the cows.

Since the house was big, everyone had small jobs — sweeping, washing utensils, or cleaning. Our funniest job was running to save the clothes from sudden rain and putting them back to dry again. As the sun set, the house turned into a playground again. We played Uno, cards, and the business game with all 25–30 family members. Every day was full of laughter and happy memories.

When the holidays were ending, my cousins and I didn’t want to leave. We had become so attached to our grandparents and the house. Finally, the day came to return home. I felt a little sad leaving, but I carried back so many sweet memories that I will always remember.
