When Gadgets Take Over Childhood
I still remember a sunny afternoon last year. I went outside to play cricket with my friends, but most of them were sitting in their homes, glued to their phones. Some were watching videos, others were playing games, and a few were just scrolling without even noticing the time. I felt a little sad — childhood, which was once full of laughter and running around, seemed to be disappearing.

Earlier, life was different. People worked with their hands, ate fresh, healthy food, and spent their time outdoors. They stayed active, learned practical skills, and enjoyed simple joys without depending on machines.

Today, most food has preservatives, and machines make our lives easier. But gadgets like phones, tablets, and TVs are taking up so much of our time that children are losing the chance to explore, play, and connect with family and friends. Moral values, curiosity, and simple joys are slowly getting forgotten.

This doesn’t mean gadgets are bad. They are useful for learning, finding information, and even staying in touch with others. But if we spend too much time on them, we become lazy, miss real-life experiences, and lose the energy and fun that childhood is meant for.

We should try to balance gadgets with outdoor games, reading, helping our family, or just spending time talking and laughing with friends. That way, we can enjoy the modern world without losing the magic of being a child.
After all, childhood comes only once — it’s a treasure worth protecting.
