A Journey to Remember
Four years ago, my family and my father’s friends planned a trip to Tamil Nadu. I was extremely excited and thrilled. After breakfast, we packed our bags, met everyone at a common point, and travelled together in a van to Mysuru Railway Station. From there, we took a train to Madurai. After reaching Madurai, we checked into a hotel to relax after the journey and freshen up.

Our first visit was to the Madurai Meenakshi Temple, one of the biggest temples in India. When I first saw it, I was amazed by how huge it was. The beautiful carvings on the temple were simply incredible. Inside, there was a pond with a water fountain that caught my attention. We went in to seek the blessings of Goddess Meenakshi, did some shopping, and later visited many other places in Madurai. Each place had something special to offer.
From Madurai, we booked a bus and travelled to Dhanushkodi. We rested for a while and enjoyed some chats there. Seeing the Bay of Bengal and the Gulf of Mannar, which are part of the Indian Ocean, was an amazing experience.
One of my favourite memories from the journey was our lunch stop. We ate under a huge tree, sitting on its enormous roots that had grown above the ground. It was such a simple moment, but eating together in the shade of that tree made the experience very special.

Our bus driver later took us to a famous temple in Tamil Nadu that was well known in that area. From there, we travelled to the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam National Memorial in Rameswaram. I was fascinated to see photographs and memories from his time as the President. I was especially amazed to learn how a part of the rocket had once been carried on a bicycle. Seeing these glimpses from his life made the visit memorable.

But not every memory from the trip was serious — one of them still makes everyone laugh!
After eating ice cream, I went back to the bus where two of my friends were already sitting. They noticed a cow bending its head into the bus through the door, but they did not warn me. When I suddenly turned around and saw the cow, I screamed loudly! My friends burst out laughing. Even today, they still tease me about that moment, and it has become one of the funniest memories of our trip.

Later, we returned to the hotel, freshened up and had dinner. After that, we went to the beach, where we played and had lots of fun together.
The next day, we visited the Rameswaram Temple and continued our journey to Kanyakumari. We visited the temple and spent time at the beach. We searched for beautiful shells but could not find any, so we finally decided to buy a few as memories of our visit.
Soon, it was time to return. We travelled back to Madurai and finally reached Mysuru, carrying much more than our luggage — we came back with memories, laughter and moments that I still cherish four years later.
This journey taught me that travelling is not only about visiting new places. It is also about the people we travel with, the little moments we share and the memories we create together.
Travelling with family and friends will always remain one of the best experiences of my life.
